If shaving is performed in the direction of the hair growth, it is really comfortable. But to get a real close shave, it should be performed in the direction against the hair growth.

But people often use the both ways. However dermatologist warm that shaving in the direction against the hair growth causes ingrown hairs and irritation.

Razor Bumps -

With shaving, there is always a risk of Razor Bumps. Actually sometimes when the hair curls enters the skin at another place where they do not belong to, causes skin irritation also inflammation and pain. And when the hair continuous to grow, a thick scar tissue can develop. This condition is known as Razor Bump.
